  • Ask for low fat and low salt food.

Choices at a burger place

Less salt, sugar, and fat (good)

  • One piece of meat, no sauce, and no cheese
  • Veggie burger
  • Salad
  • Plain baked potato
  • Yogurt dessert
  • Egg on a muffin

More salt, sugar, and fat (not good)

  •  French fries
  • Milkshake
  • Double burger
  • Baked potato with butter, sour cream, and bacon
  • Extra cheese or sauce

Choices at a chicken place

Less salt, sugar, and fat (good)

  • Skinless chicken breast
  • Grilled chicken sandwich
  • Salad
  • Mashed potatoes without butter and gravy

More salt, sugar, and fat (not good)

  • Fried chicken
  • Extra gravy and butter
  • Popcorn chicken
  • Teriyaki wings
  • Biscuits with gravy

Choices at a Mexican food place:

Less salt, sugar, and fat (good)

  • Chicken soft taco
  • Black beans
  • Green vegetable salad
  • Veggie burrito
  • Low fat or nonfat sour cream

More salt, sugar, and fat (not good)

  • Refried beans
  • Crispy tacos
  • Nachos
  • Giant burrito
  • Extra sour cream and guacamole

Choices at a sandwich place:

Less salt, sugar, and fat (good)

  • Small sandwich
  • Wheat bread
  • Lean meat like roast beef or chicken
  • Veggie sandwich
  • No cheese
  • Low fat sauce

More salt, sugar, and fat (not good)

  • Foot long sandwich
  • Ham, pastrami, or bacon
  • Cheese
  • White bread
  • Extra sauce or mayonnaise

Choices at an Asian food place:

Less salt, sugar, and fat (good)

  • Stir fry
  • Brown rice
  • Tofu
  • Egg drop or miso soup
  • Low salt soy sauce

More salt, sugar, and fat (not good)

  • Deep fried food
  • White rice
  • Fried rice
  • Egg rolls
  • Regular soy sauce

Choices at an Italian food place:

Less salt, sugar, and fat (good)

  • Thin crust pizza with veggies
  • Pasta with tomato sauce and veggies
  • Salad
  • Plain rolls or bread sticks

More salt, sugar, and fat (not good)

  • Thick crust pizza with meat and cheese
  • Garlic bread
  • Pasta with cream sauce or butter
  • Fried food
  • Lasagna

Don’t forget to exercise.

  • Exercise no matter what you eat.
  • It helps you feel and look better.
  • Try to exercise every day.
  • Take a walk or run.
  • Ride a bicycle.
  • Climb up and down stairs.
  • Dance to music.
