Disease Symptoms to watch for If you don’t get treatment
Chlamydia
  • Burning or pain when urinating
  • For men: watery, white or yellow drip from the penis
  • For women: discharge from the vagina, bleeding between periods
  • You can pass the disease to your sexual partners.
  • It can cause more serious infections.
  • You may become infertile (not able to have a child).
  • In women, often leads to pelvic inflammatory infections that can cause ongoing pain.
  • It can be passed on to your baby when you are giving birth.
Genital HPV (Human Papilomavirus) Infection
  • Usually has no symptoms
  • Sometimes causes visible genital warts
  • You can give the disease to your sexual partners.
  • Genital HPV infections can lead to cancers of the cervix, vagina, vulva, vagina, anus, or penis.
Genital Warts
  • Small, bumpy warts on the penis, vagina, and other sexual organs
  • Itching and burning around the sexual organs
  • You can pass the disease to your sexual partners.
  • It can be passed on to your baby when you are giving birth.
Gonorrhea
  • Burning or pain when urinating
  • For men: thick white or yellow drip from the penis, pain in testicles
  • For women: thick white or yellow discharge from the vagina, bleeding between periods, stomach cramps
  • You can pass the disease to your sexual partners.
  • It can lead to more serious infections.
  • You may become infertile (not able to have a child).
  • In women, often leads to pelvic inflammatory infections that can cause ongoing pain.

  • Can cause heart trouble, skin disease, arthritis and blindness.
Hepatitis B

Hepatitis C

  • Sore muscles
  • Headache
  • Stomach pain

  • It can cause liver damage.
Herpes
  • Flu-like feelings
  • Small, painful blisters on the sex organs or mouth
  • Itching or burning around your sex organs
  • You can give the disease to your sexual partners.
  • Herpes cannot be cured, but treatment can relieve some of the symptoms.
  • You can pass it to your baby when you are giving birth.
HIV/AIDS
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Feeling tired
  • Flu-like feelings that do not go away
  • Fever
  • Diarrhea
  • White spots in the mouth
  • Unusual sores on the skin
  • You can give HIV to your sexual partner.
  • There is no cure for HIV.
  • Most people die from this disease, but treatment can help you live longer.
  • You can pass HIV to your baby when you are pregnant, during childbirth or while you are breastfeeding.
Syphilis
  • Reddish-brown sores on the mouth, sex organs, breast, or fingers
  • Rash
  • Flu-like feelings
  • You can give the disease to your sexual partners.
  • You can pass it to your baby when you are giving birth.
  • It can cause miscarriages.
  • It can cause heart disease, brain damage, blindness, and death.
Trichomoniasis
  • For men: irritation inside the penis, discharge, burning after urination
  • For women: yellow-green vaginal discharge with strong odor, irritation and itching of vagina
  • You can give the disease to your sexual partners.
  • It may cause pregnant women to have babies who are born early or with low birth weight.
  • It can increase your chances of catching HIV, if you are exposed.
